This step-by-step video detail how to replace the oil filter in a 2010 Ford Focus SE, and these steps will be similar to 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 Ford Focus models. Changing the oil and oil filter helps remove contaminants and ensure you have fresh, filtered oil to lubricate and cool your car’s engine parts. Dirty oil, low oil levels, and a clogged oil filter can all contribute to engine damage, so make sure you perform an oil change on your Ford Focus within 500 miles of the oil life indicator light appearing, or at the interval specified in your owner’s manual. Your 2010 Ford Focus SE’s owner’s manual details the service-interval information, but if you notice a dirty or clogged oil filter or reduced engine performance, you can perform an oil change more often to ensure long engine life and lasting performance.

Your 2010 Ford Focus’ oil filter aids in trapping and removing contaminants in the oil before it is recirculated throughout your vehicle’s engine. Changing your 2004-2011 Ford Focus’ oil and oil filter is a simple maintenance task that can help improve your Ford's engine performance and longevity. Your Ford Focus’ oil filter should be replaced during each oil change, as well as adding fresh oil. Most 2004-2011 Ford Focus SE owner’s manuals suggest you change your Ford’s oil and oil filter when you see the Oil Change Light illuminated on your dashboard, since your vehicle has an oil life monitoring system that handles varying oil change intervals based on oil condition. The service manual for your Ford Focus includes the manufacturer’s recommended maintenance intervals and details on the oil life indication system. A clogged oil filter, or dirty, contaminated oil can cause decreased engine performance, sputtering, metallic sounds coming from your Focus’ engine, or could even cause the engine to seize if not addressed. Our detailed video will help you perform an oil change on your Ford Focus SE to help extend the life of your engine.

Park on a level surface… lift and support the front end of the car.
Slide an oil drain pan under the oil drain plug… and use a 13mm socket to loosen it.
Take the plug the rest of the way off by hand… and wait for the oil to drain completely.
Once the oil has drained, use a rag or shop towel to wipe down the oil pan and drain plug.
Reinstall the drain plug and tighten it to 21 foot pounds.
Now, make sure the drain pan is underneath the oil filter, and use your oil filter wrench to loosen the filter… then remove it by hand.
