Irish Whiskey Bread Pudding Recipe

Ingredients

Bread Pudding
- 16 oz. loaf of challah bread (this can be changed for another sweet bread such as a brioche bread and can be a 15 oz. loaf)
- 4 cups of heavy cream
- 5 large eggs
- 1 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon of cinnamon

Irish Whiskey Sauce
- 1/3 cup of Jameson Irish Whiskey (this can be changed for a different brand of whiskey or different liquor such as rum or brandy)
- 1 cup of heavy cream
- 1/2 cup of granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon of flour
- 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter

Directions

Bread Pudding
1. Cut your bread into 1 inch pieces.
2. If you are using a fresh bread, toss your bread cubes into a pan and bake them at 250°F for 10 minutes. This will allow your bread to dry up so it can soak the wet mixture we will make. If you are using day old bread, skip this step and simply set your cubes aside.
3. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, sugar, vanilla extract, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and heavy cream. Whisk all ingredients until well combined.
4. Once bread cubes are out of the oven and have been cooled, begin adding them to the wet mixture. Carefully fold the bread cubes into the mixture making sure that all bread pieces are well soaked and submerged in the mixture. Set aside for at least an hour. You can even let this sit overnight. The more time the bread has to soak up the mixture the better the bread pudding will taste.
5. Meanwhile, make the whiskey sauce and create liners for your muffin pan.
6. Preheat oven to 350°F.
7. Once the bread has absorbed most of the wet mixture and the bread is well soaked begin pouring bread into muffin pan. Carefully press cubes down as you place the bread into the pan to ensure they are tightly packed in.
8. Bake for 30 minutes. Remove bread puddings from the pan almost immediately after baking.
9. Serve bread pudding with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a generous helping of Whiskey Sauce! Enjoy! :)

Irish Whiskey Sauce
1. In medium sauce pan, whisk together sugar, flour and heavy cream until smooth.
2. Add unsalted butter and vanilla extract and whisk together until combined.
3. Turn up heat and allow the sauce to come to a boil.
4. Whisk well until mixture begins to thicken slightly and remove from heat.
4. Add whiskey or preferred liquor, whisk immediately and set aside.
