The Mercedes AMG M139 Engine replaces the M133 and is a turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine produced by Mercedes-Benz, to be installed in the second generation A45 AMG and A45 S AMG. With an output of 421 hp, the M139 is the world's most powerful four-cylinder engine in series production for road use.

The M139 engine is based on the Mercedes-Benz M260 engine, which is itself an updated version of the M270, sharing the same bore, stroke and block dimensions. Unlike the regular M260, AMG engineers rotated the engine block 180 degrees so that the intake system is located at the front of the hood, while the turbocharger and exhaust manifolds are located between the engine and the passenger compartment.

The rotation optimizes the air flow entering the engine thanks to the shorter length and more regular shape of the intake ducts; this also results in having a lower and flatter frontal section of the bonnet, allowing for greater aerodynamic penetration.

The exhaust valves in the M139 engine are larger than those in the M133 engines to have a larger outlet flow of exhaust gases going to the turbine. The compression ratio increased from 8.6:1 for the M133 to 9.0:1 for the M139. The fuel injection system has two stages: the first is direct with piezoelectric injectors which inject the fuel directly into the combustion chambers and the second is indirect with injectors positioned in the intake manifolds
