I have a bird bath, red robins, sparrows, blue tits, magpies and pigeons use it. But would they prefer a more fancy water fountain ? From experience, I know they prefer simple, but it's not a reason not to try.
Part 1 is about making a DIY solar fountain. Part 2 will be so see who visit it.
Things I used:
- a large deep pot
- a solar pump
- a smaller recipient
- a pizza tray
- some cable ties
- some stones
- some fake plants
- somes slate
- some elegance and magic
00:00 - 00:54 - the basics, a pot and a solar pump
00:54 - 01:13 - testing the pump
01:14 - 02:42 - a secured tray and some more water
02:43 - 03:12 - 'decorative' stones and fake plants
03:13 - 03:49 - waiting for the sun
03:50 - 04:10 - a woohoo moment
04:11 - 04:32 - an example of why you should read the manual
04:33 - 05:00 - adding a small recipient to keep some water in
05:01 - 05:10 - one of the numerous final touch
05:11 - 05:40 - adding some slates as bird platforms and to spread the water
05:41 - 06:06 - some elegance and magic
06:07 - 06:47 - an almost visitor
For version 1:
- real plants
- improved sound (this one sounds like a guy weeing next to you for hours, or a gutter)
- an easy way to retrieve old water
- a solar pump with a small battery to store some sun
