Dodge invited me, and a bunch of other hooligans, out to Autoclub Dragway in Pomona to try out the new Dodge Challenger RT Scat Pack 1320.
Based on the regular RT Scat Pack, it has the 485 horsepower 6.4L Hemi V8, a quick-shifting 8-speed automatic transmission and the narrow body fenders. It also has a line lock, for doing burnouts in the burnout box, a factory-equipped transbrake for launching, beefier alxes lifted from the Demon and custom Drag Spec Nexen SUR4G street tires. Oh, and the electronically-adjustable suspension also has a bespoke drag mode, intended to get maximum weight transfer onto those rear wheels, for the best traction possible.

Dodge claims it'll do the 1/4-mile in 11.8 seconds, all day, 0-60 in about 3.5 seconds, and still be perfectly comfortable and usable as an every day car. It also costs just $45,000.

It seems like a killer bracket racer, thanks to the consistency offered from the all of the drag racing goodies Dodge fitted the car with. Lifting at the 1/8-mile mark, I was consistently coasting to mid-12 second passes, lap after lap after lap, and the car didn't skip a beat all day.

Best run of the day, lifting at the 1/8th mark with one passenger:
0-60 MPH: 3.7 seconds
1/8th Mile: 7.8 seconds at 91 MPH
1/4 Mile: 12.5 seconds
The car easily has mid-to-high 11 second passes in it, all day, with no compromises as a reliable road car.
