Even though Armored Core 6 is a mecha game, the game’s story and lore include a surprising amount of symbolism from alchemy. Now the main goal for many alchemists was the Philosopher's Stone, which would famously transform lead into gold. But it was also believed that the Stone could provide a limitless fuel source and extend human lifespans--which is also the case for the Coral found on Rubicon in AC 6.

What's more, many alchemists believed they could unlock the secrets of the Philosopher's Stone by studying one substance that bore a striking resemblance to the Stone's properties: coral. In fact, one name for the Philosopher's Stone was "tinctura coralli," or the "tincture of coral."

So in this video, I detail how alchemists thought of coral and its clear parallels to the Coral in Armored Core 6. And following the groundbreaking work of Carl Jung, I also explore how the game itself can be seen as an allegory for alchemy, since it tracks the three stages needed to create the Philosopher's Stone, culminating in Coral Release for the Alea Iacta Est NG++ ending.

Spoilers for Armored Code 6 and the Collected Works of Carl Jung, Volumes 12-14.
