This is a Motormouth couple car comparison of the Toyota RAV4 compact SUV versus set new Toyota Corolla Cross subcompact SUV. Which of this popular crossover utilities is right for your family? Is it worth the extra money to buy the RAV4 over the Corolla Cross? The Toyota Corolla Cross is a sub-compact crossover and the Toyota RAV4 compact but, Toyota has built the Corolla Cross to be a spacious family option at an affordable price point. The wheelbase of the RAV4 and Corolla Cross are very close but, the RAV4 is almost 5” longer and wider by over an inch. The Corolla Cross has an extra 2” of front legroom and the RAV4 almost 6” more rear legroom. Overall cargo capacity is pretty close with the RAV4 only getting an extra 3 cubic feet. The Corolla Cross base AWD model is $4,800 CAD/$4,630 USD less than the RAV4.Both have FWD and AWD options however, the Corolla Cross has less power and a CVT instead of the RAV4’s 8-speed automatic transmission. The Corolla Cross has a 2L 4-cylinder with 169 horsepower and 150 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid option will be available later this year with 194 horsepower. The RAV4 has three powertrain options, a 2.5L 4-cylinder with 203 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. A hybrid with 219 combined horsepower and the Prime, a plug-in option with a combined 302 horsepower. The top trim of the Corolla Cross for $33,990 CAD/$27,875 USD has all the extra features to keep you happy, a power rear door, wireless charger, 8” touchscreen, JBL audio system, a power driver seat, softex upholstery, 7” information display, moonroof, fog lamps, premium LED headlamps and 18” wheels. Features like heated front seats, a heated steering wheel and Apple Carplay and Android Auto are available on the lower trims. The RAV4 XLE Premium trim would be the most comparable trim to the top Corolla Cross model, it will cost you $37,690 CAD/$32,735 USD, an extra $3,700 CAD/$4,860 USD. There are some nice changes coming for the RAV4 and Corolla Cross for 2023, both will get Toyota’s multimedia system including wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto. The RAV4 will get a standard 8” touchscreen, 7” multi-information display and a new 10.5” touchscreen and 12.3” multi-information display will be available on the higher trims. No pricing has been announced for 2023.
