I've used a deer call while in the woods, and in my opinion, the calls that work the best are the ones that attract the doe's. It is easier to get the doe's attention and come into a call, than it is a buck's. Then hopefully, once the doe comes in, a buck will be following.

You can buy a deer call, but in just a couple of minutes, you can make one with 2 pieces of wood and a rubber band. Adjusting the tension of the rubber band, adjusts the pitch of the call.
