Six people were presumed dead after a Singapore-flagged cargo ship destroyed the Baltimore bridge in the early hours of March 26. The Francis Scott Key Bridge, which carries Interstate 695 over the Patapsco River, was hit by the 948-foot Dali containership, as per the Coast Guard. The US Coast Guard had suspended the search operations and divers were said to resume the search for the bodies of the six construction workers on March 27. A massive cargo ship crippled by a power loss rammed into the structure, forcing the closure of one of the busiest ports in the US Eastern Seaboard. US President Joe Biden called the bridge collapse "a terrible accident” and "vowed “to move heaven and earth to reopen the port”. Biden promised to visit Baltimore as soon as possible and said he wanted the federal government to pay to rebuild the bridge.
