No doubt the Tesla Model Y has changed the game in the EV world. When it was released, you could only get it in a 5 seat configuration. A few months later, and you could get your Tesla Model Y with the long awaited 7 seat option. This $3,000 option adds 2 retractable seats in the rear of the car that gives you the flexibility of adding 2 additional seats in the car as needed.

The Tesla Model X has long reigned supreme as the ultimate SUV in the EV space. The Model X has been shipping in 3 configurations including 5 seat, 6 seat and 7 seat. Although those 3 options are still available, the 7 seat Tesla Model Y has raised the question, would the Tesla Model Y 7 seat be as good as the 7 seat Model X?

The biggest, and often most important difference between the 2 is price. In fact, a 7 seat Tesla Model Y is nearly half the price of the slightly larger 7 passenger Model X. Although it does indeed come with a larger price tag, you do get some added tech features, as well as an additional 1,500 lbs of towing raising that threshold from 3,500 to 5,000 lbs. Other than that, the 2 SUV's offer up to 7 seat capacity.

Other than price alone, there is a lot to consider when thinking about the difference between the Tesla Model Y and Model X. Although the 7 seat Tesla Model Y does have the same seating capacity, there are some important limitations to consider. In addition, unless you get the new refresh Model X, the Model Y does charge faster on V3 chargers than the Model X, at a full 250 kW.

In the end, both SUV's offer the best in segment performance across all brands. Making the decision between the 2 however can be quite difficult.
