Battery technology has been getting increasingly popular over the past few years. And this is having implications on F1 as a sport.
F1 is THE hub for research and development into new technologies that get implemented into the road cars we see today. Look at hybrid engines for example. Without F1's technologies, we would not have the efficient hybrid engines we see on the road today (they may still have been invented in the future, but F1 accelerates this R&D process).
This brought me to Formula E. They are the electric vehicle's equivalent of the pinnacle of motorsport, that is, F1. My initial thoughts on this debate are that, if battery technologies are becoming of increasing interest to car manufacturers, could we see them jump ship to formula e and invest into the R&D over there, essentially becoming the new F1? Well let's discuss it.
