Earlier this year, in the middle of a Presidential election rife with hateful and uninformed rhetoric about Mexico, Mexican Americans and immigration, I went down to Douglas, Arizona and took a walk along the border wall. I also met with a young woman named Anna—an undocumented immigrant who was brought here by her single mother at the age of three. She told me why her family made the move, the struggles they have faced as they’ve adapted to American life and what she would—or wouldn't—say to Donald Trump and his ilk.

This is one conversation revealing two very different versions of what it’s like to be a millennial in pursuit of the American Dream. This is my attempt to cut through the noise and connect with the people behind the anger, ignorance and political rhetoric. This is what it’s like to be illegal in the US.
