This is an excerpt of the book ASK THE DUST by John Fante. A classic novel written about 1933 Los Angeles from the point of view of a starving writer living in a hotel on Bunker Hill.

The Foreword for the book was written by Charles Bukowski, the renowned L.A. poet who was chiefly influenced by Fante's writing.

I did not know the proper pronunciation of 'roman à clef' or 'ennui' don't judge me. These readings, though segmented, were each done live on the air in one take.
