"People are scared to let go of their stories. We all are, let's admit it,” says Lyla June. “We have stories we use to survive. Some of them aren't true. Most of us have some kind of stories that help us get up in the morning that might not be true. So, you have to be gentle; you have to be compassionate and understanding. If someone is taught their entire life one thing and you're challenging that, understand that's what you're doing."

June spoke during the 2022 Festival of Faiths session Changing Story Keepers: Millennials and Gen Zers . The festival alum is an Indigenous musician, scholar and community organizer of Diné (Navajo), Tsétsêhéstâhese (Cheyenne) and European lineages. She blends studies in human ecology at Stanford, indigenous pedagogy and the traditional worldview she grew up with to inform her music and perspectives.
