Today we start archiving a series that is considered one of the most epic in gaming. The Metal Gear Solid franchise skyrocketed with the entry that released on PlayStation 1 which then snowballed into an immense hype for Metal Gear Solid 2. But probably the masterpiece in the entire series is Metal Gear Solid 3, which plays as a prequel to all the other games.
I owned MGS3 back on the PlayStation 2 and though I enjoyed it, I never fully completed it. And thus I was happy to put my nostalgic boots on and revisit this game within the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection. And what an experience it was!
We play as Snake, the original Big Boss, who is sent on a mission into the Jungle to stop a sinister plan of the Soviets. During this mission he will be betrayed by his former mentor and must come to terms with the fact that he and her will have to face eachother at one point. The storytelling in this game is some of the best within the series with beautifully directed cutscenes and gorgeous vistas. Despite a lot of dialogue, the game never becomes boring thanks to its interesting characters and plot. It uses events of reality with fiction to create a unqiue universe of its own. David Hayter as Snake is still unrivaled in his performance and even a young Revolver Ocelot delivers on his part.
Since the story is a prequel its a great game to start at, even when you are a newcomer. The gameplay is solid, the graphics still great and the plot and story some of the best that gaming has to offer. If you feel that need for some stealth adventure again, put up some camouflage paint and join me in this saga!
