On October of 2012, a beautiful soul was taken from this world, Marisela Echeverria. Marisela, or as those who knew and loved her called her, Mari, had been training with the Leukemia and Lymphoma's Team In Training Ironteam to compete in Ironman Canada. Unfortunately, on the eve of her race, she was on a flight back home because her father had passed away, and she went to be with her family. Still set on becoming an Iron(wo)man, she gained a spot to compete in Ironman Arizona. On her last long ride before her event, Mari was tragically struck by a bus while cycling on the Pacific Coast Highway.

One of her dear friends and teammate, Kelly, is now undertaking the goal of fulfilling one of Mari's dreams: to compete in the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
