Anime has always been difficult to adapt to live action. Both the Death Note and Cowboy Bebop adaptations were at the forefront of people's minds when the first trailer for Netflix's live adaptation of One Piece was released. Despite the mixed reactions, I had faith that Eiichiro Oda's supervision would ensure that the show would feel distinctively One Piece. I'm so happy to report that I was right.

This was the first time that an anime was adapted to live action properly. The story beats and changes had some shifting for the sake of brevity, but the overall themes of adventure and freedom remained. This show IS One Piece and I'm so happy that it is getting the praise that it deserves.
