The far-right Rassemblement National (RN) party, lead by Jordan Bardella, and its allies came out on top in the first round of France's legislative elections on June 30 with 33.1 % of the vote.
The left-wing Nouveau Front Populaire alliance came in second with 28%, and the presidential coalition in third at 20.8%, according to the latest results. The vote was also marked by a sharp rise in turnout, which reached 65.8%.
The presidential coalition and the left-wing NFP alliance addressed voters ahead of the second round, telling them to block the far right. However, the right-wing Les Républicains did not give any "national instructions" to their voters.
