WHERE WE KEEP ALL QUOTES: https://LetsGoWarriors.com

QUOTES/NOTES/TOPICS:

ON HIS PRIMARY GOAL WITH THE SECOND UNIT AND MAINTAINING ENERGY:

“I think it's very important because it's not so much the point total that's been lost is the energy that's been lost. And then you try to come back from that so sometimes it's just impossible to overcome. That’s the importance of it is just making sure that we're able to sustain the level of energy needed to win at a high level. That’s my goal. What am I doing? Number one, just trying to slow the unit down. That unit should not play as fast as the first unit. It should be more methodical. It should be more sets. It should be more patterned movements as opposed to random movements and random offense. I think for me, it's just trying to slow that unit down number one, and then number two, and most importantly, make sure that unit is defending. As a second unit, your job isn't to go out there and build the lead, your job is to maintain the lead. In any instance, that the first unit fail to build a lead, then your job is to slow down and settle the game in. That's just kind of been my focus with it and just trying to help that unit play, as much mistake-free basketball as we possibly can.”

ON WHEN HE FINDS THE NEED TO PUSH THE PACE AND SLOW THINGS DOWN:

“Yeah, I mean I think for me anytime that I can get the ball and push the pace regardless of who out there is good for us. With that unit in particular, if we can get the ball and push it, then you're not playing against a set defense. It's much tougher to operate against the set defense. That starts with stops and if we continue to get stops with that unit, then we can get out and really push the tempo. I think that'll be to the benefit of that unit. As Jordan (Poole) gets more comfortable with me in that group and the group that is now there, it'll free him up some as well playing in transition like that. I think that's got to be a focus to that group for sure.”

ON THE CONFIDENCE IT CAN GIVE THE BENCH TO MAINTAIN A LEAD:

“It’s huge for the confidence of guys. Being in that unit, you can almost feel snakebit when things start going wrong. In basketball. When you feel that way, it's hard to overcome that. It's very important for that unit to get guys a couple easy baskets and if you can get guys a couple easy baskets then everything else starts to flow. I thought for us or for me especially when I'm at the five, it's important that if I get to rebound, I'll push the ball because there's usually four guys that can shoot the ball around, so if he can push the tempo, get them cross-matched it's to our advantage. That definitely wasn't my focus of mine but I think, to your question, it's huge for the confidence of the bunch.”

ON HOW LONG IT CAN TAKE A PLAYER TO LEARN HOW TO PLAY WITH STEPHEN CURRY:

“I think it's different for certain guys, but I think it usually takes a small part of the season for guys to start figuring it out because no one else in the world plays like that. It's funny, when you're playing against other teams the first thing a guy will say is ‘this dude never stops moving’ and like I know it's pretty interesting. No one else plays like that. So it is an adjustment period that it takes. For some guys that's 20 games for some guys that's 40 games, but I think usually when you get halfway into the season, you hope that it can happen sooner, but usually, when you get halfway into the season, it starts to change for guys and they understand like, all right, he's moving here. he's moving there and what you end up realizing is when to get in the way per se and when to just get out of the way. I think, once you start to figure it out, everything else just kind of comes naturally.”
