Modern ESC are boring. For years there have been almost zero development in term of Electronic Speed Controllers we use everyday in our FPV drones and RC airplanes. But, it was not always like this. Years ago, when we still had no idea what a good ESC should be, we had ideas like:

I2C connected ESC, just 4 ESC connected to a single I2C bus, each device with unique I2C bus address

Serial ports (UART) connected ESCs

ESC connected via SPI bus! Ok, it was a problematic idea as each ESC had MISO, MOSI, GND and Select line, each on a separate wire

Or the very interesting ESC from Matek, where all 4 power switching circuits were driven by a single microcontroller connected with a single serial port to the flight controller.

And now? I don’t remember when the last time I heard about any innovation in terms of ESCs. Too bad
