How To Prime & Glue PVC “Correctly”. Learning how to prime and glue pvc pipe is as simple as learning five steps. Starting with clean pvc pipe is key. Always clean any pvc parts that you are going to glue. PVC fittings are designed to work with square cut pipes so be sure to cut the pvc pipes squarely. To achieve a square cut on pvc pipe, I like to use a power miter saw of a hacksaw.

After you cut any pvc pipe it is crucial to remove any shards of pvc and bevel the edges of the pipe. This will allow the pvc pipe to seat correctly inside the fitting. The next step is to properly prime the pvc fittings and pipe. This step should be done right along side of the gluing process. After applying the pvc primer the pvc glue should be used while the primer is still wet. The pvc primer is used to chemically soften the pvc surface so that the glue actually welds itself to the pvc.
