The 2014 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest took place in Copenhagen after Emmelie de Forest won for Denmark the year before. Participants from 37 countries took part at the contest and 26 of them made it to the Grand Final. Valentina Monetta was San Marino's first ever finalist. The Eurovision Song Contest 2014 was also the first ever time Montenegro qualified for the Grand Final as an independent country. Conchita Wurst brought Austria their second ever victory with the song 'Rise Like A Phoenix'. Right after her victory, she was headline news all over the world. The Netherlands reached their best result since winning the contest in 1975. The Common Linnets came second.
