Today, we’re flying the DJI Mini 2 (as a complete beginner drone pilot).

Like many of you, I've watched badass drone shots all across YouTube, film and TV for years and thought to myself, I want to do this too someday. I realized however that micro drones like the DJI Mini 2 — which are drones that weigh under 250 grams — are not only super affordable but very easy to get started as you don’t need to get a license to begin flying a drone for the first time.

So, in my quest to become an elite content creator, it was time to invest in a tool that could allow me to capture the perspectives I couldn't previously share so that I could continue to upgrade my visual storytelling. In this video, I'll be taking you along the journey for my first drone flight ever. Enjoy!

⚠ Disclaimer: before your first flight, be take the proper time to understand the basics of how to safely operate your drone, research your local laws and define your intended location of flight. Off camera, I spent days researching and learning about the aforementioned before going for my first flight. Then once my initial planned location changed, though it seems like I picked a random location on the fly, my grandmother lived up the street so I was familiar with the area as you'll see in the deleted scenes. As some have pointed out, though I thought I nailed everything from a legal perspective as of filming, the only thing that I (accidentally) didn't follow was visual line of sight for a small portion of the flight due to an obstructing tree line, but then brought it back to my VLOS after a moment or so. Please follow this rule as it's very important! Overall, be thoughtful, be safe and follow the proper regulations on your first drone flight. There are a lot of rules and things to keep in mind at first, but it gets a lot easier with every flight. Good luck, be safe and enjoy!
