Over the course of this video we’re going to make a couple allusions to the BMW X5 since this iX is very similar in terms of dimensions

Which is why it’s alittle strange that the trunk is smaller in the iX
Usually EVs are able to maximize space inside HOWEVER, they have done with the rear seat and we’ll talk about that more later
Also, there’s no frunk…at all so you’re lookin at all the storage

1:23 - Looks

This may not be the best looking EV on sale, but it’s better looking than all the eggs Mercedes is passing off as EVs…but now let’s talk about all the awesome stuff going on with the iX

GOOD:

3:02 - The drive

You get dual motor AWD as standard
You also get air suspension as an option
And you get a rear steer module to make this feel more athletic
And for the size of this thing BMW has really focused on keeping the weight down and balance up
Loads of light aluminium and you can SEE all the CFRP when you open the doors or trunk

And the result is the balance on this car is exquisite

In basic terms, it still feels like a BMW

It’s really smooth
Shockingly refined and quiet
AND it’s still plenty quick, even the non M60 version

516 hp and 564 lbft which means you get to 60 in 4.4 according to BMW, but it’s more like 4 seconds

If that’s not quick enough for you, you can get the M60 version which will get to 60 in just over 3 seconds

4:25 - EV stuff

This is BMW’s 5th generation battery chemistry, which is a fancy way of saying 400V architecture
They are currently working on their 6th gen battery which will reduce charging times BUT even still this thing will charge 10-80% in 35 min
Which is pretty quick for the 105kWh battery
The max range with the 20 in wheels is 324 miles which is VERY solid and pretty accurate

5:08 - Interior details

First the materials - of course there was a push for sustainable and recycled materials, but they took it VERY seriously here

door cards made almost entirely of recycled materials
seats made with 50% recycled polyester
floor mats and coverings 100% recycled nylon
(including fishing nets recovered from the sea)
leather tanned with olive leaves

And then there’s the gold and crystal accents

6:01 - Rear seats

Remember when I said the trunk here is smaller than the X5 but that’s because a lot fo the space goes to the rear seats? Well look at how much room I have!

climate zone and vents
heated rear seats

6:31 - Technology

This is something we don’t usually talk about when we discuss tech, but we HAVE to talk about the Bowers and Wilkins 4D audio

Headrest speakers for 4D audio
there’s speakers in the back and butt (feel)
Bowers speaker covers are cool and lighted
Oh, and it sounds awesome

And then of course the other tech stuff

This was the first BMW to get iDrive 8 which we’ve covered a number of times, but here are the highlights
Wireless ACP
360 cameras
Reverse assist
Integrated drive recorder
And the graphics are insane for your huge screens for your cluster and center screen

It’s not relly a surprise that you’ve got loads of great tech here on your electric BMW


7:28 - Price

The BMW iX is NOT the cheapest option you can buy, but I think it doesnt bring the most VALUE for the money…let me tell you what I mean

The BMW iX starts at about 87k for the 2024 model year…what’s on the website currently
That’s 2500 LESS than the Mercedes EQE SUV
And then there’s the new Audi Q8 eTron we just tested, and while the new Q8 eTron is a lot better than last year and every single one starts cheaper than the iX, you get less range, less performance, and it just doesnt feel as special…but it is better looking

And then there’s the model X, which brings another row and like 24 more miles of range BUT it also comes at another 11,000 premium


8:25 - Luxuries

This iX is also packed with cool luxury stuff like

Heated and cooled seats
Massage seat…just for the driver though
And a pano roof that’s tinted with electricity…fitting

You also get a clever little pocket in the passenger door for your phone
AND there’s a thoughtful phone pocket in the center console with ahole in it

Plus the car makes cool noises when you start it up

Sometimes, luxury comes in the form of simply making the driver feel more special than they otherwise would
