A small, undetected water leak in the Kirkwood home in Port Orchard, Washington led to an uncontrollable mold infestation, sickening the family of seven (parents and five children). Eleven-year-old daughter Jael applied for a makeover, but the family was not initially selected. Jael persisted, enlisting the help of "Sweet" Alice Harris and the mayor of Port Orchard; one year later, Jael's persistence paid off, and the family was selected (by this time the family was forced to relocate to a single motel room). The team demolished the mold-infested home and built a completely new one in its place.
