He grew up in a two-room apartment in Pittsburgh’s Hill District. August Wilson's reflections on his neighborhood experiences would become the basis for legendary plays that earned him two Pulitzer Prizes and a Tony Award. On August 13, 2022, a grand opening celebrated the completion of a massive restoration project of Wilson's childhood home. Funded by local foundations, government organizations and celebrities including Denzel Washington, Oprah Winfrey, Spike Lee, Shonda Rhimes and Tyler Perry, the building now operates as a center for arts and culture. Come along with WQED for a tour of 1727 Bedford Avenue.
