"To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people exist, that is all." - Oscar Wilde

What does it mean to live? Does it mean simply to exist? If so, then we are all living, and the answers to all of those philosophical questions that ask what it mean to truly live, would all be uniform. We live to keep ourselves alive.

But is it that easy? Has life ever been that easy, to simply exist, nothing more, nothing less?

There are people who will say no, that there is more to life than simply surviving. Who can say that they have never been tempted along the path of life to step outside its cautious boundaries? Most of us, if not all, are tempted to walk outside that straight white line we are pressured into balancing our entire efforts on.

So what does mean this quote? I believe that he is saying that there is more to life than simply staying on the steady path we are pressured into walking. In that sense, most of us are already a sort of living dead, living a dead life. There are very few of us that step out of the boundaries of the white line to walk a line or lines of our own, to lead ourselves where we always wanted to go, to be the person we admired since childhood, to stop pretending to live "the" perfect life and live a perfect life. Few people challenge the white line and take that first step, their biggest step, from a life of simple existence, towards an unregrettable experience of their own, a life worth dying for.
