In a collaborative project with the Spencer Museum of Art, a freshman honors seminar teaches Jayhawks about the Greenland Kayak, an 1800’s Inuit kayak found in KU’s Inuit Collections, which was originally collected in 1895 by Lewis Lindsay Dyche. Additionally, the students learn about multiple disciplines across campus, including structural engineering, and build a modern skin-on-frame replica of the Greenland Kayak.
