Leigha Logan M.M. ’23, a graduate student in Berklee Valencia’s scoring for film, television, and video games program, composed and recorded music for the piece “Into the Deep” at AIR Lyndhurst studios in London as part of her culminating experience project.

“Into the Deep” is a composition based on The Deep, a novel by Rivers Solomon. This novel follows a society of underwater mermaids who are descendants of pregnant mothers thrown overboard during the Atlantic Slave Trade. Logan’s piece is written taking inspiration from a script she wrote, where a young girl named Sula finds one of these mermaids and is taken to discover their underwater city.

Every year, students in the scoring for film, television, and video games graduate program travel to an industry-leading recording studio in the beginning of the summer semester to record a piece of original music performed by a 50-plus-piece orchestra. After that, they receive a recording of the session, which students will mix and master to present as part of their culminating experience. Past trips have included sessions at the famed London studios AIR Lyndhurst and Abbey Road.
