Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the flood-hit region of Kherson on Thursday, praising the rescuers and volunteers evacuating trapped residents.

“In Kherson, I visited a crossing point where people are being evacuated from flooded areas. Our task is to protect lives and help people as much as possible. I thank the rescuers and volunteers! I thank everyone involved in this work!” Mr Zelensky said.

Moscow and Kyiv have blamed each other for the destruction of the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Station and dam on Tuesday, which unleashed flood water from the Dnipro River.
