Today's teardown has a story! I normally don't get a story with core engines but this L83 is different! This Gen5 5.3L V8 is from my friend Mike's Silverado 1500. He bought this truck new and the engine "let go" at 85k miles. At 1700 miles, he deactivated AFM. He didn't know what happened, but told me at some higher RPM it started making some noise an shut off before he could shut it down. He's replaced the engine and gave me the core to teardown on the channel. I'm not sure what happened here. His truck did have some aftermarket modifications, and was tuned. Was the failure related to that? or something else?

Why am I doing this? My name is Eric and I own and run a full service auto salvage operation in the Saint Louis Missouri area. Part of our model includes dismantling core and blown engines and salvaging the good parts. We do not rebuild engines, we simply supply parts to those that do!
