We explored Tasmania's Southwest on our second last day of our road trip. On our way to Gordon Dam we passed Lake Pedder, Strathgordon and Lake Gordon.
It was an incredible sight when we got to the Gordon Dam. At 140m tall, the concrete arch dam allows 12.4 million megalitres of water to be stored in Lake Gordon. The dam wall is taller than the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the dam can hold more than 30 times the amount of water in the Sydney Harbour!
We were surprised to find that you can actually walk across the dam wall and it was pretty terrifying to look down to the Gordon River and think that people abseil down there!
We then arrived at our gorgeous free camp, Teds Beach. It's situated near Strathgordon, right on the edge of Lake Pedder. There's beach camping and a gravel carpark with a toilet block and a basic camp kitchen. It's a great spot for fishing also but we didn't have much luck.
