Ryan Poles sounds off on…
- Bears drafting Caleb Williams #1 overall? Poles says the Bears’ meetings with Williams went great in LA and that he’ll visit Halas Hall during the first week of April. The Bears’ GM also said that “it’s hard to find someone that doesn’t like or love him” as a person and player. He pointed out his “intentional leadership” as something that’s stood out.
- Justin Fields Trade: Poles admitted it was hard to trade Fields and make the call to him along with head coach Matt Eberflus that they were sending him to Pittsburgh. However, he believes the Bears did right by him by trading him to the Steelers and that it was time to make the move.
- Keenan Allen Contract Extension? Poles says Allen is the “perfect fit” for a rookie QB at WR and that he would “love to have him for a long time” in Chicago. He did allude to an “order” of extension candidates as if to say another player or two could be up first. Could the Bears sign Teven Jenkins or DJ Moore to an extension this offseason?

Bears’ GM Ryan Poles on Caleb Williams:
“Really mature. One of my guys kind of bumped me on it, which I think is rare these days for a 22-year-old, he never touched his phone. Really intentional with his conversations and talking about his interests and things that he likes to do. Really good touchpoint. I'm having a hard time finding a person that doesn't like him or even love him and thinks that he can reach the highest limits. The feedback's been good. When you talk to his teammates, they don't like him, they love him. His leadership, how he brings people together. He's intentional with his leadership.”

Ryan Poles on trading Justin Fields:
“One of the harder things we had to do but I thought it was necessary for us to head in the right direction. His jersey’s up in [my son’s] room. So it puts that into perspective of how difficult those moves are. But I really felt like that was best for our organization and best for Justin.”

“I try to be intentional with the order that we do extensions, so we’ll review that and kind of see what our order looks like. But for what he stands for, I would love to have him long term.”
