What may appear to be a locomotive running backwards isn't all what it seems to be! This is a practice known as running "long hood forward", and it dates all the way back to the 1940s when American railroads were transitioning from steam to diesel power. However, its not too often you'll find railroads running like this anymore, so what happened to this vintage tradition?
