“321” is a song about just wanting to do more. Whether that means wanting to go out with friends more, travel more, have more sex, or whatever it is. It’s about recognizing that your time is limited on this earth and wanting to make the most out of it. Buried in this AJR/Surfaces style track is an underlying feeling of dissatisfaction with your current lifestyle, and the desire to change it.

I wrote this song with my friend Matt Geroux, who also produced the track. I had a few days blocked out to work with him in Nashville. The first song we did was Never Not Lonely (you can check that one out here: https://songwhip.com/jonpaul-wallace/.... After that one, we decided to start something new from scratch, so I went in the other room and started on lyric ideas while Matt worked on a couple beats. One of the lyric ideas I had was the first three lines of this song “I should have more sex and make more friends. See more places find more dead ends”. Matt played me the instrumental and I immediately thought it was perfect for that idea. The minute I explained the concept to Matt and told him the opening line would be “I should have more sex”, he was completely on board and we wrote the rest of the song in about an hour and a half.
