A little while back, we got Compton duo Tyga and YG on the mic to perform two cuts from ‘Hit Me When U Leave The Club: The Playlist.’ As expected, the session was a party. These dudes have been crossing paths since the early ’10s, after all, so the chemistry was there the moment they walked in the door. “We live in the same world, come from the same place, use the same producers, so the music always compliments each other,” said Mr. 4Hunnid about the impetus for hunkering down with his pal in the studio. They invited some other friends too. Lil Wayne, Snoop, Busta Rhymes and Blxst are all on the guest list for this 14-track project that’s billed as a playlist, and the resulting 38 minutes are indeed a mixed bag of decade-spanning samples, references, and vibe switches. “Brand New” flips The Stylistics’ classic into a listicle of fresh purchases; “Thumpin” grabs both the squeaking bed and iconic hook from Trillville’s “Some Cut.” It’s fun.
