In celebration of the Junos coming to Halifax, East Coast Music Hour created 4 pairs of up-and-coming East Coast artists to collaborate on a cover of an East Coast, Juno-winner. Each pair was then tasked with writing a brand new song based on the themes in that cover. We recorded each pair with an amazing backing band in Studio 60 at the Halifax CBC/

The first pair is Kayo (NS) and Brett Matthews (CB) covering two-time, Juno-winner, Rose Cousins. They have completely reimagined her song “Chains” and have written an absolute BANGER inspired by their cover called DARK KNIGHT.

KAYO BIO:
KAYO describes his sound as ‘Future meets Fugees’. It’s a lush soulful blend of hip-hop, R&B and Reggae; a raspy delivery mixed with unique cadence, catchy melodies and a certain rhythm that could only stem from his island upbringing. His fans resonate with the honesty, vulnerability and versatility in his music that has allowed him to really make an impact in today's superficial musical climate.

KAYO has been creating music for well over a decade now. He left St Lucia and moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia in 2009.

Brett Matthews Bio:
Brett Matthews is a singer songwriter from Whycocomagh, Nova Scotia, Canada. With his debut project on the rise, he's been working on new material with producer and Canadian Hip Hop legend Classified.
