The little girl twists the worn handkerchief between her fingers. Her voice is a choked whisper. The booming questions and expectant faces blur into an overwhelming rush of anxiety. Desperately, her fingers form a fist, then splay open – a silent, unconscious plea. A signal to her service dog. The judge sees it, and immediately calls for a recess when she sees the dog reacting. However, they still need the girl to answer their questions and identify the person who tormented her. Thankfully, the child’s psychologist has an idea: they will use the dog to help her speak. What happens next, is unprecedented!
