This is a really easy stew recipe. For a thicker stew, stir in a tbsp. of flour before adding the garlic.
If your can or bottle of beer is less than 500 ml, complete with chicken broth to reach a total amount of 500 ml and don't use the bouillon cube.

Ingredients for 4 servings

500 g -- 1.10 lb. pork shoulder (cut into 2-inch cubes)
1 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 onion
2 ribs celery
3 carrots
1 tbsp. sugar
6 medium sized potatoes, peeled and cut into large cubes
1 garlic clove
500 ml -- 16.9 fl. oz. Dark beer (I use a can of Guinness)
1 chicken bouillon cube (only if you don’t use broth)
1 bay leaf
Salt and pepper
