A huge thanks to @mazdauk ​⁠ for having me along at their most recent Drive Day @bowcliffehall4868 ​⁠ near Leeds.

The Mazda MX-5 is currently in its 4th generation which was released in 2015, although there has been an update along the way, this is the most current and most significant facelift.

In a world that is SUV and seemingly EV hungry, a small, manual, petrol, 2-seater roadster doesn’t seem like it has a place, this is the view of many manufacturers, giving Mazda a huge USP and market share of this sort of car!

The models I drove were:

1. Mazda MX-5 RF 2.0 184ps Homura – Soul Red Crystal –

2. Mazda MX-5 Roadster 1.5 132ps Exclusive-Line – Zircon Sand –

Driving both variants and both engines really proved to me that money doesn’t necessarily make a car “better” or specifically more fun. I really enjoyed driving the Roadster and the RF, but the Roadster felt more fun and special! Both engines were smooth and punchy enough, so I’d be more than happy with the cheaper 1.5 model.
