Two turners, one jumper and a set of ropes. Double Dutch started on the playground but times have changed.
Back in 1972, eager to give girls a chance to belong to something special, New York City Police Officer David Walker started the National Double Dutch League. His daughter Lauren is now the president.
We met up with girls from Ms. K's Swagga Jumpers from Brooklyn. Already state champions, they're looking to snag an even bigger title during the Summer Classic National Competition this weekend.
Watching anyone who really knows how to jump is a joy. The girls attracted a crowd from the moment they hit the plaza at Lincoln Center. They know that practice makes perfect and that hard work is all a part of the equation.
Super coach Ms. K insists that Double Dutch is actually quite easy. She says in just 2 months she can take anyone from beginner to winner.
Uncoordinated pretty much since birth, I was convinced I might be the one exception to that rule. And boy was I surprised!
