The evil power of the ring consumes Sméagol and transforms him into Gollum. Bilbo finds the ring after Gollum drops it & then passes it on to Frodo years later. Frodo volunteers to destroy it by heading to Mt. Doom, but Gollum wants it back and has other plans..
