Presenter: Prof. Philip S. Gorski, Yale Professor of Sociology and Department Chair of Sociology

There has been much discussion of White Christian Nationalism since the 1/6 Capitol Insurrection. In this talk, based on a forthcoming book, Gorski explains what White Christian Nationalism is, when it emerged, how it works, where it’s going, and what must be done to confront it, giving special attention to the way in which it appropriates Christian scripture and mobilizes racial animus.

The Loring Sabin Ensign Lectureship in Contemporary Interpretation of Religious Issues was founded in 1994 by church members and other friends to honor Loring S. Ensign ’51 M.Div. for his 25 years of service as pastor of Southport Congregational Church in Connecticut.
