For most of the year, except the Summer break, Swami Prabhavananda would attend a weekly gathering in the Hollywood Temple with Christopher Isherwood reading the Gospel of Ramakrishna, and then Swami would take written questions, read by Isherwood, and then questions from the audience.

Often he would repeat the teachings of his guru, Swami Brahmananda, the spiritual son of Sri Ramakrishna. He would also tell his reminiscences of encounters with Sri Sarada Devi and the Direct Disciples of Ramakrishna.

Swami P (as his disciples called him), came to the US in the 1920s, initially as an assistant minister at the San Francisco Vedanta Temple, then in 1930 he established The Vedanta Society of Southern California in Hollywood. Branch Centers were established later in Santa Barbara and Trabuco Canyon in Orange County.

Swami gave up the body on July 4th, 1976.In going through the archive boxes of old tapes from the Vedanta Society, I found large format audio recordings on 10.5 inch reel, with remarkably clear recordings, heard here for the first time.
