Roads and interstates around Asheville, North Carolina were washed out by surging floodwaters, essentially cutting the city off. Other towns and portions of western North Carolina have been heavily damaged from the rain that fell from what was then Hurricane Helene.
At least 64 people are dead and others have been reported missing in the southeast U.S. after Helene made landfall Thursday night as a Category 4 hurricane with winds of 140 mph.
Moody's Analytics said property damages could range from $15-26 billion.
