One of the most memorable passages from the traveler and historian Herodotus’ monumental work, Histories, is when he describes how a Babylonian marriage market worked. But was this rather strange (he would say "wise" and "best") practice actually a thing in ancient Mesopotamia? Let's take a look at the institution as well as marriage laws in ancient Mesopotamia.
