This is the first video in a new series where I'm going to present the fundamentals of the Tres as plainly and simply as possible. My focus in the past year has been growing my website TresKits.com where I make and sell Tres conversion kits for Baby Taylor guitars. Most of my customers are brand new players so I’d like to produce more content specifically for beginners.

This video is about chord shapes. With most chords you can choose what chord shape you use by where you want the root to be. Is a basic concept however sometimes it isn’t immediately obvious. To illustrate this I elected to play the shapes in G so I had room on the fretboard to play all three shapes with the root on all three string courses.
I chose the chords I use most: major, minor, 7, minor 7 and diminished. The root is indicated in red on the chord charts.

I have never put chord charts on a video before, please let me know what you think. I can start doing this on my tutorials as well.

In the video I'm tuned to standard C (GCE) and I’m playing my Sitka Spruce Baby Taylor Tres. If you would like to have one of your own please check out my website: http://www.treskits.com where I make and sell kits that include everything you need to convert a stock Baby Taylor guitar into a great sounding Tres yourself with no luthier experience required.

The string gauges I'm using are:

My channel is not monetized, so I do not make money from my videos. If there are ads running on this video it's because the content is copyrighted and the owner of that copyright is receiving the revenue from the video views.

The song at the end of the video is the classic tune ‘El Reloj De Pastora’ played by the incredible ‘Septeto Trio Los Dos’ who have graciously given me permission to use.

I make and sell Tres Cubano Conversion Kits for Baby Taylor Guitars. The kit can be installed in under 30 minutes with no luthier experience required. They cost $200 (USD) with free shipping worldwide.
You supply the Baby Taylor and I send you everything you need to turn it into a great sounding Cuban Tres.
