One night, Susan Lloyd experienced terrible pain in her mouth and later saw her primary care physician, who prescribed an over-the-counter pain reliever. When the pain persisted, she knew it was more serious but had no idea it would be diagnosed as stage-four cancer. She was referred to Rui Fernandes, MD, DMD, at UF Health Jacksonville, who removed the cancer and reconstructed her jaw using a bone graft from her leg.
