Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered has been the most difficult game to review in a long time. The reason is that I am absolutely in love with the character, and taking off the rose-tinted goggles to critique this game in an unbiased manner will be hard. I think I have, to an extent, achieved this. Please remember that it is okay if you disagree, and I'm eager to chat about the game with you all. However, we do not have to insult one another to prove a point.

This video was initially going to be called Marvel Spider-man critique or Marvel's Spider-Man Analysis. But as I was writing this Marvels spiderman review I realized that it was more of a discussion piece than anything. The original release of Marvel's Spider-Man, also known as Spider-Man PS4 was met with great reviews essentially across the board and Insomniac had to deal with a few controversies surrounding the quality of the puddles? Man, the internet will get mad about literally anything they can and I think it speaks to the quality of Marvels spiderman and spiderman ps4 that the amount of puddles INSIDE a building was the centre of controversy. I could go more in depth into this “graphics downgrade” but so many others have done it better than I ever could. The game also left some questioned unanswered, such as are they saving the amazing spiderman suits for next game!? Regardless myself and a few others were quite pleased to hear that the game was being remastered for the Playstation 5 and when that was released there was a paralleling criticism relating to downgrades but this time it had to do with Peter's face.

I need to bring this up now because it's easily the most prominent change in this remaster and it is still pretty controversial so here's my take on the new Peter parker face, and from this point forward, I’ll be spoiling literally everything, so consider this your one and only spoiler warning. The original Peter's face was really good. It didn’t fall into the uncanny valley and it honestly looked Iconic. The hair, the eyes, everything just screamed “chad” and he looked like Spider-Man. What I mean by that is not that he explicitly looked like another portrayal of Spider-Man but that he looked exhausted. He always looked like he barely got any sleep and was always stressed about something else. He really looked like he wasn’t always there mentally. The heavy wrinkles and bags under his eyes made him always look so burnt out and that, to me, is an accurate look for someone who spends the night taking down superhuman rhinos and old men in bird suits.

New Peter looks different in spider-man remastered. He looks much younger and looks like Tom Holland's stunt double. This isn’t a bad thing necessarily but it immediately gave me a flashback to the Avengers game which had these characters that looked like it was trying too hard to give you those iconic depictions of the Avengers seen in the MCU. I have theorized that this change was made not only to fit the voice actors face which Insomniac clarified but I also think it was done to make Spider-Man fit in with a potential Marvel Video Game Universe. I imagine that Spider-Man would look out of place if he was placed with these avengers look-alikes. Now of course they could just give each Avenger their own unique design but that’s my own personal theory as to why the face was changed and I’m going to stop myself from going any further because we're missing the point.

I appreciated that some suits were saved for DLC, free ones at that, such as the future foundation suit. All of the marvels spiderman DLC suits are present in this game for free. all spiderman ps4 dlc is included too which are where the spiderman ps4 dlc suits come from. One of the suits added for marvel's spiderman on the ps5 is the amazing spiderman suit.

With the release of spiderman miles morales it's clear that we are all hungry for some new spider-man game news and a full spider-man ps4 sequel. I can't wait for Marvel's spider man 2.
