Today's video discusses how a malignantly narcissistic parent wants to drill into the scapegoat the notion that he or she is inherently defective so that the parent does not have to encounter his/her own feelings of this kind. The parent needs to bear witness to the scapegoated child feeling this way – and feel like he/she is the one who is controlling the child’s feeling this way – in order to achieve the safe distance needed from their own feelings of worthlessness. Next, we discuss how such a belief impacts the scapegoated survivor's quality of life. Last, the process of recovery via disconfirmation of this belief is discussed.
